Pastor Jeff continued his sermon series on the Gospel of John; today's sermon was entitled "Becoming World Christians" which was the theme Jeff drew from John 4: 27-54. He drew our attention to the power of the Samaritan woman's statement in v 29 "Is this not the Christ?" and to the opportunities the disciples now had to spread the gospel cross-culturally. The climax of this passage is in v 42 where the men whom the Samaritans from Sychar came to hear Jeusus and proclaimed " we no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and know that this man really is the Saviour of the world". This same Saviour of the world invites us too to spread the Gospel cross-culturally. |

Today's passage was John 3: 22-36 and was entitled "He must increase; responding to the Greatness of Christ" looking in particular at John the Baptist's recognition of Jesus' greatness and his joy as he saw his own ministry diminishing; vv31-36 gives us the testimony of John the Apostle who recognises that Jesus' supreme greatness is seen in his authority; the final verse (36) is a summary of the whole of John 3: "whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on them" |
